The vision network bestows its fourth honourary prize

At the 2006 annual meeting, the Vision Network Honoured professor Franco Lepore, who has a Canadian chair in cognitive neuroscience, for his implication in the development and promotion of vision research in Québec. Franco Lepore is presently interested in intermodal plasticity. He is the director of the centre de recherche en neuropsychologie expérimentale et cognition de l'Université de Montréal (CERNEC).

The vision network bestows its third honourary prize

At the last annual meeting of the Vision Health Network in March 2006 (the delayed 2005 meeting), the Network discerned its third honorary prize to doctor Alain Rousseau in order to recognize his important contribution to the promotion and advancement of vision health research, as well as his training of future vision health scientist in Québec. Most of Dr Rousseau's work was carried out at the department of Ophthalmology at the Université Laval, a department of which he was the director. He is one of the building forces behind the FRSQ Vision Health Network, where he was an axis director (immuno-oncology). He is also the director of the Fondation des Maladies de l'Oeil, an organism which funds research projects, carried out in the major university research centers in Québec, on ocular disease.

The vision network bestows its first honourific prizes

At the last annual meeting (November 2004), the Vision Research Network handed out its first honourific prizes since the Network's creation in 1995. The prizes were awarded to Jacqueline Orquin and Jean-Réal Brunette in order to recognize their important contributions in the promotion and advancement in vision health research and the training of Quebec's scientific future. Dr Orquin has worked at Sainte-Justine hospital for almost forty years and is a pioneer in vision health research in children. Dr Brunette was the head of one of the first canadian visual electrophysiology laboratories (fundamental and clinical research). The laboratory was situated at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital. Moreover, he was the first director of the Vision Network, which he founded with Dr Hélène Boisjoly.
