The Vision Health Research Network
is pleased to announce the following grant prgram:
Grant Program for Projects in Partnership. All
groups that applied for these grants in June 2004
may present the same project.
Amount available: 50,000.00$
Deadline: December 15, 2004
Form to use: Projects in partnership
Partnership
between the Vision Network and the FROUM
1- Partnership:
Vision Network and the -Fonds de recherche en
ophtalmologie de l'Université de Montréal
(FROUM).
2- Amount available: $30,000.00
(approximately $10,000.00 per project).
3- Priorities: Clinical research
projects related to areas judged to be a priority
by the Vision Network and the FROUM (such as normal
and abnormal aging).
4- Projects must inlcude a researcher
from the department of Opthalmology from the UofM
and at least one other researcher from another
department or institution, who must also be a
member of the Network. The researcher from the
department of Opthalmology shall be responsible
for managing the grant proposal. The managing
researcher will be responsible for submitting
the project as well as the financial report upon
request of the Vision Network.
5- The project must be submitted
using either the Vision Network form (partnership
projects) or the FROUM (available at the secretariat
of the Opthalmology department of the UofM.

The Vision Research Network is
pleased to announce the following call for grant
proposals : Grant program for acquiring shared
research infrastructure.
Amount available: $70,000.00
Deadline: 15 novembre 2004

Partnership
between the Vision Research Network
and the Fondation des maladies de l'oeil
The Fondation des maladies de l'il and
the FRSQ Vision Research Network are happy to
announce a call for proposals for one or more
research projects related to vision. The available
funds total 60 000.00$. For this first competition,
we wish to emphasise clinical research aimed at
areas that have been judged as priorities by both
partners. To get more information regarding the
priorities of the Vision Research Network, please
consult the Research Priorities for 2003-2007
section. You will find a definition of clinical
research and the forms that must be completed
(use the form entitled; Projects in Partnership
Grants, please indicate on the form that the project
is of a clinical nature). Projects must be submitted
to the secretariat of the Vision Research Network
before June 15 2004.
We hope this new initiative will be well received
by Québec's researchers,

First
Science Day at the École d'optométrie
The members of the Vision Research
Network of the FRSQ are cordially invited to participate
in the first Science Day at the École D'optométrie,
Friday April 2. This day will allow for graduate
students, their undergraduate colleagues, and
the professors at the École D'optométrie
to discuss the central theme of the next generation
of researchers in the areas of vision science,
ophthalmic and physiological optics, and optometry.
The conferences are free for all; however members
who wish to receive a lunch should send a check
of 15 dollars, no later than Monday March 29,
to the attention of Mme Rompré at the following

Partnership
between the Vision Network and
the Montréal Children's Hospital Centennial
We are pleased to announce a new
partnership between the Vision Network and the
Montréal Children's Hospital Centennial.
This partnership is intended to help the dissemination
of scientific information and to encourage the
participation of students outside of the greater
Montréal area. Towards this goal, we have
created a bursary program that will be administered
by the Vision Network. These bursaries will pay
for the transportation costs of students who wish
to attend the conferences organised by the Montréal
Children's Hospital Centennial and the 27th Annual
McGill Ophthalmology Clinical and Scientific Research
Days.
Twenty bursaries of $50.00 each will be available.
Interested parties should fill out the form "Demande
pour l'aide à la diffusion par un étudiant
". Students will be reimbursed upon presentation
of original receipts up to a value of $50.00.
The deadline to send in the participation forms
is April 1 2004.
Partnership
between the INLB and
the Vision Research Network
We are pleased to announce a partnership
between the Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille
(INLB), a member of the Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire
en réadaptation du Montréal Métropolitain
(CRIR), and the Vision Research Network. The INLB
and the Vision Research Network are joining forces
in order to initiate projects in the area of visual
deficiencies.
A sum of $30,000.00 has been set
aside for research projects that will address
one of the following themes :
> An epidemiological survey
of visual deficiencies in Quebec;
> A study on the consequences, on a daily basis,
of low vision among the elderly who live at home
and the impact on health services (for example;
falls, taking medication, eating habits, transportation,
household chores, personal hygiene, etc.);
> The risk of falls and other consequences
that macular degeneration may have on an individuals
health;
> A comparative study of elderly individuals
with a visual deficiency that live at home versus
those that live in a CHSLD.
Interested researchers who wish
to submit a project to the INLB and the Vision
Research Network must use the form entitled Demande
de Projets Rassembleurs.
The deadline is March 1st 2004. A letter of intent,
stating your interest, must be received at the
secretariat of the Vision Health Network (reseau.vision@mcgill.ca)
no later than February 6 2004.
